Close to home, different state

Antwerp is about 30 minutes from our Fort Wayne office, which makes it closer than some of the Indiana towns we work in. The state line changes the paperwork and nothing about the weather. The same freeze-and-thaw winters, the same wind across open fields, the same asphalt roofs reaching the end of their second cycle.

What I see on Antwerp roofs

In the village, older homes with some age on them — steeper pitches, a porch roof at a shallower slope, an addition or two. Outside it, farms: a house, a barn or machine shed already wearing screw-down panel, maybe a newer ranch where a farmhouse used to be.

The question I get most often here is whether this is the same metal as the barn. It is not. Screw-down panel carries its weather seal in a rubber washer under every screw, and those age out around year ten to twelve. On a machine shed, that is a maintenance pass every decade. On the house, it is how a fifty-year roof leaks in year fifteen. Concealed-fastener systems — standing seam, or an interlocking metal shingle — keep every fastener out of the weather.

Pitch decides more than taste

That porch roof at a low slope is where I see metal roofs put on wrong. Every system has a minimum pitch. We do not install exposed fastener below 4/12 anywhere. An interlocking metal shingle wants 3/12 or better. Mechanically seamed standing seam is the one that handles genuinely low slope, and the only one I am comfortable with on a near-flat addition. If somebody quotes a system your pitch does not support, that is the end of the conversation with that somebody.

When I would tell you not to

If you are selling in the next few years, good asphalt is the better decision. If your leak is one flashing or one boot on a sound roof, that is a repair — we do not take repair calls; a repair contractor is the right answer. If the only question is the smallest number this year, metal loses that one.

Where we are coming from

Fort Wayne is home base, a short drive west. If you would rather have an Ohio contractor, that is fair. What we bring is metal only, manufacturer-certified installers, and a warranty that transfers if you sell. Now you have the context to decide.

“We also serve surrounding towns and rural communities throughout Northeast Indiana, Northwest Ohio, and Southern Michigan within roughly a 90-minute drive of our Fort Wayne and Noblesville offices.”

What we put on roofs around here

Installs from our own jobs. Which system suits a house depends on its pitch and its details, not on the town.
