Tilcor makes stone-coated steel panels — a steel base with a granule finish, stamped to read as tile, shake or shingle. People choose them for the look, and I install them for people who have looked at the tradeoff and want that look. I am careful about where I recommend them, and I would rather you hear why from me than from a competitor.
A stone-coated panel overlaps and uses channels underneath to move water that gets past the surface. It is designed to manage water after entry, which means the roof leans on its underlayment and its flashing details for the long term. That is more places for water to find a path over forty years than a system that stops it at the surface. Pitch has to be 3/12 or steeper. The granule finish also weathers differently than a painted PVDF panel.
What Tilcor does well: the panels are well made from New Zealand-grade steel, the CF panels fasten on the concealed edge, the fire and impact ratings are good, and the warranty document is one of the clearer ones. If the tile or shake look is the reason you are choosing metal at all, this is the honest option for it.

In this blog, we showcase a re-roofing project for the Barker House in Manitou Springs, Colorado, USA; that used Tilcor CF Shingle to provide a superior quality roof, while keeping the low profile aesthetic.
Manitou Springs is unique little mountain town situated at the base of Pike’s Peak, just outside of Colorado Springs. The town is bursting with personality and has a timeless charm to it.
One building that is particularly special is the Barker House, located in historic downtown Manitou Springs. The building was constructed in 1882, and has been a town staple ever since. Divine Roofing, the local roofing company, had the opportunity to re-roof the dilapidated asphalt shingles that were previously installed, and they chose the Tilcor CF Shingle profile to do the job. The consensus is that the roof looks stunning, and fits perfectly with the building and the town culture.
We chatted with Manitou Springs resident, Susan Gustenson, the general manager of the Vault (which used to be the historic Bank of Manitou) regarding her feelings about the restored roof. The store is right across the street from the Barker Building, so Susan looks at the building every day she comes into work. She absolutely loves the new roof, and was very impressed with how quickly the roofers were able to remove the asphalt and install the new Tilcor roof.
She was especially impressed with how the turrets turned out. Mike Moore, owner of Divine Roofing, said that initially there was some concern from the city of Manitou Springs about the turrets – they didn’t want super high and bulky ridges. He said that the “low profile ridge capsules of the Tilcor CF Shingles sealed the deal for Divine”, and ultimately got them the job. Mike praised the craftsmen who climbed up 5 stories on the roof to install the turret panels, because it was a very difficult job since just about every cut, angle, and pitch that you can possibly have on a roof were on the turrets.
Chris Danielson, our Tilcor Sales Representative, said that Divine Roofing approached him because the building’s owner had some concerns about the hail damage on the asphalt shingles.
With insurance deductibles going up due to the increasing hail storms, the building owner was looking for a more permanent solution. Josh Moore, Vice President of Divine Roofing, said that the owner’s next deductible on a claim was more than $80,000 (due to the fragility of the building and the harsh elements of the CO winters). The owner wanted to go with a roof that she knew she wouldn’t have to replace within the next 20+ years. Josh said that going with Tilcor was a “no-brainer”, and that out of all the materials and products that they’ve used, Tilcor has “top-notch” customer service.
Every time that they’ve been out on a job and have had a question regarding the product or installation, Tilcor is always very quick to provide solutions. Mike also commented on how he really likes the “direct to deck” feature, especially with the CF Shingle profile. He said it’s “easy to install, versatile, clean, light, and the guys like working with it”. They’ve also really enjoyed learning the system.
The Barker House roof is thoroughly enjoyed by the people of Manitou Springs. Susan, who looks at the building everyday while she’s at work, loves what she sees. The old Barker House is something she deeply cherishes, and she said it was a joy to watch the process of bringing the building back to life. She loves the way the Tilcor roof looks on the building, and was excited to find out that there is another Tilcor restoration project in the works.
When looking at a roofing solution for your home, you would want to know what exactly it consists of, and be assured that it’ll stand the test of time. At Tilcor, we use ZINCALUME® steel in all of our roofing systems, a highly durable material which allows complete traceability for the ultimate assurance of quality.
Not all steel roofing is the same. Homeowners today are more educated than ever and are looking for quality and sustainability when it comes to their roofing products.

If you own a roofing company, it's never been more important to know the different types of stone coated steel roofs on the market and to offer the best one to your customers.
Whether you are just getting into offering metal roofing or if you are an industry veteran, make sure you know the difference between these types of metal roofs.
Aluminum is the most common option for a residential roofing system because of its lightweight, durable, and corrosion-resistant.
Pros:
Cons:
Galvalume is a coating of zinc, aluminum, and silicon that is used to protect a metal from oxidation. Galvalume steel is corrosion resistant which gives roofs a longer life span. However, with Galvalume steel you do need to worry about tension bend staining. Tension bend staining occurs when moisture or other corrosive elements make their way into the cracks of the roof panels and causes it to rust.
Pros:
Cons:
Galvanized metal roofs are made of steel or iron and have a zinc coating to prevent rusting. Zinc is added as a protective barrier to prevent the base metal from corroding. This is one of the most common metals used for roofs since it is inexpensive, sturdy, and can last for a long time. However, Galvanized steel is not a good option for people living in coastal areas. The moisture in the air can speed up corrosion which will shorten the life of the roof.
Pros:
Cons:
Tilcor stone coated steel roof panels offer superior durability, protection, and design that makes them the best choice in stone coated steel.
Tilcor panels are made with ZINCALUME® which combines the corrosion protection of aluminum with the sacrificial protection of zinc, giving it the advantage of both metals. As a result, ZINCALUME® has a significantly longer service life than a galvanized steel product using only zinc.
Tilcor panels look like traditional asphalt tiles but perform better under severe weather and harsh conditions – making it the perfect choice for homeowners who do not want the look of standing seam metal roofs.
Part of Tilcor roof performance is due to its installation. Each metal tile is horizontally fixed into battens, which provides integrity to the entire roof and eliminates wind uplift issues. Tilcor roofs are engineered to withstand extreme wind conditions above 120mph.
Pros:
Cons:
Roofing contractors need products that are top quality, but quick to install and aesthetically pleasing - and to accomplish this, you also need the training to sell and install them. It sounds like a lot to juggle, but we can help.
Tilcor USA provides free sales and onsite installation training so that you've got more to offer your customers. With Tilcor, you receive the training and ongoing support that you need to grow your business along with products that provide superior performance and durability.

Many homeowners overlook fall, especially those living in states with severe winters. However, numerous small problems can occur at this time of year, from pests to leaves to leaks. If they’re not addressed they can become large problems once winter sets in. Read on to learn about some common roofing problems in fall and how to deal with them before they go from bad to worse.
Did you know that even small debris can damage the surface of your roof? Remove all leaves and other debris to protect it.
The rotting process can damage the roof and meantime, pests hide out under the leaves. Leaves also become incredibly heavy when it rains. Your gutters may pull loose from the weight and overflow, causing extensive damage to roof, trim and siding.
Misaligned gutters are just as bad as blocked ones. They’ll struggle to channel water away and will overflow.
How to stay on top of this issue: Cleaning your gutters regularly, and doing a thorough clean when the trees finish dropping leaves can help prevent this unwanted damage.
As the temperature drops, animals, insects and birds look for warmth and steady food. It’s best they don’t use your roof for this as small critters cause a surprising amount of damage.
Check the structural integrity of your roof, and identify any vulnerabilities. For example, insects and birds can feast on your roof without you noticing, especially if your roof is wood or another nonmetal.
Small access points can be turned into large openings, which also lets moisture under the layers of the roof. Look for damage from wildlife, turned up insulation, sagging structure, dampness, small leaks, and missing or deteriorating shingles.
How to stay on top of this issue: If you do find that you have problems with squirrels, possums or other animals, hire a professional to set humane traps, before they settle in for the season.
The attic is a core part of your roofing system. There are two big concerns here: inadequate insulation and poor ventilation.
Vents positioned at the base and top of the roof take advantage of natural airflow. Warm air rises and exits at the top, and cool air is drawn in at the bottom. This regulates both temperature and moisture in the attic.
If heat and moisture build up, the roof cooks from the inside. The warm air is trapped, and it condensates. Moisture damage can be extensive, and will reduce the life of your roof. Additionally, ice dams and leaks can occur as trapped heat rapidly melts snow.
How to stay on top of this issue: Check your insulation for frayed, crumbly or bald areas. Add extra or replace as needed. And bonus: Evenly distributed insulation can also help reduce your energy needs.
Be proactive and make sure your roof is ready for the upcoming season, but don’t be tempted by a DIY fix. Hire a professional roofing contractor with the expertise and tools to do a full assessment.
You might not need any work done, but if you do, it’s best to address it early before a small problem becomes a big, expensive one. That’s why it’s smart to get a yearly inspection by a professional.
Ask your roofer for maintenance tips for your roof. Keep on top of maintenance to extend the life of your roof. You’ll also feel more secure when the really bad weather sets in.
Fall brings a number of roofing issues, from rotting leaves to invading pests and the effects of poor ventilation. The good news is that you can address these problems now, while they’re smaller and less costly. Get in touch to learn more.

Replacing a roof is a relatively big undertaking - that’s why it’s so important to take care of it. You can save yourself from expensive repairs by conducting regular roof maintenance throughout the year. Any problems like broken shingles, leaks or mold should be resolved before they become bigger issues. In this blog, we share some helpful tips to keep your roof in good condition.
You might already know that it’s important to inspect your roof after a big storm, but did you know that you should inspect your roof every season?
Here’s what you should look for at the end of each season:
Summer. Check for moss or algae growth or debris that could fester on the metal tiles.
Autumn. Give your gutters a thorough clean and look out for holes in the roof.
Winter. Watch for icicles and ice dams which occur when ice rapidly freezes, melts and refreezes and can bend or break the gutters and even cause water damage inside your home.
Spring. Check the gutters for water or ice damage, debris and nesting animals. Also keep an eye out for leaks and damaged flashing.
Check insulation regularly, especially if your roof is older. When you check your attic, also look for small holes, nesting animals and mould. They can be easier to spot from the inside.
Take a walk around the house. As you go, look for three things in particular: broken shingles, overhanging trees, and full gutters.
Missing shingles or broken pieces on the ground are a clear sign of a roof problem. It’s simple to replace the odd shingle but the risk is the exposure of the roof structure. Make sure you check your roof after storms and high winds and act quickly on any issues.
Keep an eye out for branches. Anything above or close to the roof needs to be trimmed back. Tree limbs are at risk of falling, while dropping leaves can rot your tiles.
Finally, check your gutters for blockages. Water that accumulates in gutters can work into the roof. After the trees have finished shedding in the late fall, clean the gutters and downspouts.
The roof must be safe to walk on, right? Wrong. If you’re not an experienced roofer, it’s best to stay off the roof. You could take a fall, or a wrong step and damage the roof.
There are legal requirements everyone must follow when working at height. When you hire a roofing contractor, they’ll inspect the site to identify the hazards and site requirements. Your quote should include the cost of these precautions, such as edge protection, scaffolding or secure harnessing, or detail the additional costs.
Roofs can be surprisingly fragile, no matter the material. A person’s weight can easily cause damage. If you must go on the roof, never walk on clear sheeting, ‘brittle roofing’ or skylights. Avoid expensive falls and do your inspections from the ground.
Don’t wait for problems. By the time you notice them, they might be bigger (and more expensive) than you realize. Professional roofers know exactly what to look for, so book an annual roof inspection. They can give you recommendations and help you prioritise, if repairs, upgrades or maintenance are on the cards.
Remember that your roof is your home’s protection against the elements. Repairs need to be taken care of quickly to preserve the integrity of the roof.

Is your home cold and damp? Has your ceiling sprung a leak or two? Or perhaps mold is starting to build up. Don’t ignore these signs - they're indicators that you may need a new roof.
This blog explains the five of the most common roofing problems homeowners face, and how to prevent them.
Faulty installation increases the chance that you’ll have future issues with your roof, while decreasing the life expectancy of the product.
When your roof isn’t installed properly, moisture from normal weather conditions makes its way into the roof. That can lead to leaks, rot, mold and expensive repair bills.
Additionally, if the flashing (the material sealing open areas inside the roof) is not installed correctly along ventilation pipes, chimneys and heating or cooling systems, other issues can occur. For example, open seams in the flashing can cause tiles to blow off during bad weather. Tilcor’s new, concealed fastening installation method can help here.
Homeowners can enjoy this new innovative system that protects all fastening elements, making roofs more reliable, more watertight and more durable than ever before.
No, we're not talking about your in-laws coming over for an unexpected visit - rather, it's the local wildlife you have to watch out for.
Small animals, birds and insects can cause a lot of damage and inconvenience in a relatively short time, so it’s best you make sure they know not to get comfortable but to move on instead. If they make a home inside your roof, they can compromise the integrity of its structure, leading to issues down the road.
Once installed, you have to treat your roof right. Make sure it's properly cleaned and regularly maintained in order to save both money and stress in the long run.
Clear gutters and remove overhanging tree limbs when necessary so that it doesn’t become a bigger job than it needs to be. If left unattended, clogged gutters and tree limbs can cause a lot of expensive damage.
As we said before, overhanging tree branches can cause problems for your roof. When limbs are too close they rub on the surface, damaging tiles and wearing away the outer protective layer. Additionally, falling leaves clog the gutters and branches risk falling onto the roof. Birds and other critters who make homes in trees can also easily find their way to the roof from there.
In summary, trees can cause a lot of unnecessary problems for your roof and house. To avoid tree-related issues, trim back branches or consider removing them entirely if they are too close.
When it comes to the life expectancy of your roof, the ventilation of the roof and attic is critical. Good ventilation regulates the moisture and temperature of the air in the attic. If heat and moisture build up due to inadequate or unchecked ventilation, damage can occur to the roofing tiles, insulation, rafters and sheathing. This can also raise energy costs and cause major issues with mold and mildew.
Vents should be installed at the base and top of the roof so the rising warm air and falling cool air can exit naturally without you having to do anything to help the process.
These are five of the most common roof problems that you might encounter, but they’re not the only issues. Remember that regular maintenance is crucial to avoiding expensive repair projects and increasing your roof’s life expectancy.

In this blog, we’re going to look at the benefits ZINCALUME® steel has over galvanized steel, and why it’s a product that’s going to go the distance for your home.
Our steel is coated in a protective layer of zinc to prevent it from corroding and rusting. The zinc works as a sacrificial anode so that even if the coating is scratched, the exposed steel will still be protected from the elements by the zinc.
ZINCALUME® has a significantly longer service life than a galvanised steel product that uses only zinc. In fact, various corrosion tests have shown that the surface corrosion resistance of ZINCALUME® is almost twice as good as Galfan. This is due to the higher proportion of aluminium in the coating - a material which reduces its reactivity (Galfan only has 5% aluminium).
Galvanization only applies a protective zinc coating to steel. Although galvanizing will slow the attack on the underlying steel, rusting will be inevitable after some decades of exposure to weather. For example, corrugated iron roofing will start to degrade within a few years despite the protective action of the zinc coating.
ZINCALUME® is produced by New Zealand Steel Limited, our country’s sole steel producer. They use locally sourced iron-sand, and manufacture a range of flat steel products for the building industry. And you can be confident they're manufacturing responsibly with their fully integrated steel mill at Glenbrook having gained approval from Environmental Choice New Zealand.
The quality of our stone-coated steel roofing panels can actually be seen on the underside of the panel. All Tilcor panels are printed with the Ross Roof Group logo, batch number, date and certification markings for ultimate traceability and quality assurance, such as CE Mark, Miami Dade, BBA.
Your roof is an integral part of your home, so it’s vital to be aware of the materials you're using and where they come from. Our ZINCALUME® steel coated panels are a phenomenal material that offer the best of both worlds - durability and a stunning aesthetic. Our New Zealand made products are undoubtedly the ultimate choice for your roof.

Many older homes lack the types of materials that will protect them against fire damage and are defenseless in the event of a wildfire. Wildfires are also becoming a huge problem – there were 58,083 total in 2018 alone. If you own a home, it’s never been more important to upgrade to materials that offer superior fire protection, especially when it comes to your roof.
However, not all fire-resistant materials are the same. Before you install your next roof make sure it passes these requirements:
WHAT IS A FIRE RATING?
When it comes to fire ratings, the classifications are divided into four classes of fire exposure:
Class A: the highest ranking; offering the highest resistance to fire.
Class B: moderate ranking; offering moderate resistance to fire.
Class C: low ranking; offering light resistance to fire.
If the fire rates for roof fail to meet the requirements for any of these classifications, they are automatically an unrated roof.
Choosing a Class A roof is important when living in an area that is extremely prone to wildfires but know that not all Class A roofs are the same. For example, concrete or tile roofs are known to be fire resistant but they are not a closed roofing system. This means that high winds can throw burning embers underneath the roof material causing the underlayment to burn.
Choosing a Class A fire rated closed roof system like Tilcor adds additional protection in two ways: preventing high winds from lifting roof materials and stopping embers from getting under the roofing materials.
ASTM E108 is a fire-test-response standard used to evaluate roof coverings in both residential and commercial roofing application. When testing, it defines conditions such as, non-combustible roof decks, fire resisting ratings, and interior fire hazards.
Fire rating tests evaluate materials based on their ability to keep a flame from penetrating through the roof covering and into the attic space.
Some roof materials will rely on underlying material or special installation to improve their fire rating. They are usually referred to as a “by assembly” fire rating. In order to receive a Class A roof, the fire can’t penetrate through the roof assembly and into the attic.
Tilcor’s stone-coated steel roofing systems are designed with protection from fire damage in mind. Our technology incorporates cutting edge Zincalume protective steel which gives our panels a significantly longer service life.
This durability was proven effective during a fire demonstration hosted in New Jersey by the Middlesex County Fire Academy and company M-Fire Suppression.
If you live in an area prone to wildfires, it’s essential to the safety of your home and family that you have a high-quality roofing system. Tilcor stone coated steel roofs are designed to perform under the highest of temperatures making them the best option on the market when upgrading the roof of your home.

Following on from the introduction of our groundbreakinConcealed Fastening (CF) Shingle and Shake roofing in the USA, we’re proud to share the story of the first ever CF Shingle project in the country. Installed on the Martin’s ranch style home in Acampo, California, our Tilcor CF Shingle was the perfect match.
In this blog we look at the Martin’s journey to having the first Tilcor CF Shingle roof installed in USA – a new roof for their home that’s more reliable, watertight and durable than ever before.
The Martin’s began a large remodeling project to their home last summer. Faced with a 15-year-old asphalt shingle roof which was worn out by high winds and the harsh Acampo summer sun they knew they needed to re-roof.
When discussing options, the Martins had a few concerns that they needed to address – they didn’t want to have to go through this process again in 10 -15 years, they wanted a product that would be durable in the summer conditions, and they wanted a roof that could help keep their cooling bills to a minimum.
Before the re-roof, most of the home had vaulted ceilings that had little insulation. The vaulted ceilings made the rooms virtually uninhabitable in the summer if air conditioning wasn’t continuously running- but even then, the air conditioning struggled and the rooms were uncomfortable. They were looking to find a roof that could help with this issue, and we knew that Tilcor’s CF Shingle over Sol R Skin was the solution.
Originally the Martins were leaning towards our Antica range but when they learnt of the benefits and color range of the new CF Shingle they decided on installing the CF Shingle Charcoal Blend.
Ironstone Roofing was selected as the roofing contractor. Owner, Tim King, who was the first to install Craftsman Shake and Antica in the USA, also wanted to be the first to install CF Shingle. He bid the project aggressively to ensure he secured the project and although the Martin’s received two additional quotes, Ironstone offered the best pricing and most experience.
The project was comprised of two installation methods.

A leaky roof is stressful for a number of reasons. But the biggest concern is coming down the track fast. Hurricane season is here, and a leaky roof could become a bigger issue once it hits your neighborhood.
Be proactive. Don’t leave it until you know there’s a problem, because that could put you in a compromising situation once the first storm blows in. However, you'll want to avoid getting up on the roof yourself - it’s dangerous, and you might miss problems that are obvious to an experienced eye.
Instead, get a roof inspection from a qualified roofing contractor, someone who will go over your roof and recognize weak points. Mention any issues on the inside, such as damp stains on wood, rafters or insulation, and any spots or stains on the ceiling.
A detailed roof inspection will include a full report, including the current condition of the roof and estimates for any repairs, the life expectancy of the roof and pictures of your home. While they’re there, ask the contractor for tips on securing your roof for hurricanes.
Keep trees trimmed and branches away from your house. In high winds, branches act like whips, which could cause huge damage to your roof. That’s why branches should be no closer than six feet from buildings.
Be sure to look out for smaller trees that might be creeping up near the roof’s edge. This is a particularly important area to keep clear of interference as it protects the roof's system.
Before hurricane season arrives, review your insurance policy and ensure it's up to date and that you’re fully covered.
In the event of a tree or other object hitting your home, your first step will be to contact the insurance company. Then call a licensed tree service. They’ll help you remove the tree or limbs and tarp the roof.
If there’s damage, call your roofing contractor - they can also help you to tarp the roof and secure your home.
Our fifth tip is to keep the age of your roof in mind - especially if you’re already noticing wear and tear. Like most damage or deterioration, the longer you leave it, the worse it becomes. That’s why it’s so important to regularly inspect your roof. Some roofing materials wear out as quickly as 15 years, and if your roof is over 20 years old, it’s made from outdated technology.
You should feel secure in the quality of your roof when storms and wild winds hit the house. To minimize stress and risk of damage, look into re-roofing your home before the hurricanes arrive.

As a home owner, you want to know your roof will protect your family in any weather. Perhaps you live in an area prone to hot, dry conditions, or frequent rain and high winds. Whatever your climate, mother nature is a powerful force that can wreak havoc on the roof over your head — if you don’t choose right.
If you’re considering re-roofing, it’s important to find a high quality and reliable roofing supplier you can trust. Balancing quality with cost is also part of the process, so you know your roof will give you the protection you need at a price that’s within your budget.A recent case study of a re-roofing project in the U.S shows not all roofs are created equal. In this blog, we present a case study, and explain what qualities you need to look for in tiles if you’re considering re-roofing your house.

Don’t hesitate to ask contractors to show you samples of work they’ve recently completed. A professional contractor will have no problem showing you their work. Talk to their clients – they’re the best way to know you’ve found a good one. Bottom line is: you need to be selective.
In New Zealand, re-roofing itself doesn’t require a specific consent to go ahead, but some materials used in the process might. How can you know which materials and which parts of the process may or may not be subject to consent? The answer is that it’s a wise idea to have the work supervised by a licensed building practitioner (LBP).
As many homeowners are increasingly attuned to the need for sustainable living, some roofing companies are prioritising eco-friendly renovations. Eco-friendly roofing materials are not simply a lifestyle choice. For example, did you know that some roofing materials adhere to the most rigorous standards of green living solutions? The right contractor will be able to help you choose a roof that’s also good for the environment.
Before deciding on a contractor, you should be able to see what the contract will look like. And it needs to clearly spell out every aspect of the project: cost, responsibilities, obligations, and time, among other things. A roofing contractor who is a true professional will take you through each step of the contract and will include a schedule for when work should be completed. Gone are the days when re-roofing your house turned your life upside down, with weeks of hammering and disruption. Nowadays, a house can be re-roofed in less than a week.
Shop around. Try to compare apples with apples. Costs will vary hugely depending on your home, the roofing material, and the current condition of your roof. A professional should be able to both advise you of the most suitable materials and give you a range of pricing options. Also, think about product lifespan and warranties. You want a roof that lasts.

One of the top questions we get from contractors and homeowners about our stone coated steel roof tiles is “can a Tilcor roof be installed over an existing roof?” The short answer is YES!
One of the top questions we get from contractors and homeowners about our stone coated steel roof tiles is “can a Tilcor roof be installed over an existing roof?” The short answer is YES!
Tilcor’s concealed fastening system (CF) makes the re-roofing process super easy, cost effective and reduces overall waste. It also can save time, money and won’t open a home up to the elements during the process. Read on to learn how our CF system works!
The concealed fastening system allows the panels to be fixed directly to a plywood substrate, or to battens. As the batten fixing space can be matched to the old tiles, you can install the CF panels directly over your existing asphalt shingle roof. This makes Tilcor’s CF Shingle the fastest stone-coated steel shingle roof to install.
The concealed fastening system also adds a layer of protection, even in the harshest environments. Tilcor products are fire-resistant to the highest standards and wind resistant in extreme conditions, up to 120 PMH. A UV-resistant coating is also added to protect from harsh ultraviolet rays. Worried about earthquakes? Tilcor is considered a “lightweight roofing system” and the interlocking panels mean the roof is less likely to give under structural pressure.
A lightweight Tilcor roof saves you money and time, whether it’s a re-roof or a new build.
Tilcor’s CF profiles have been carefully designed to preserve the familiar appearance of a traditional shake or asphalt shingle roof. A range of natural, weathered tones are available, so that you can recreate the rustic appeal of timber, or asphalt.
These profiles have been cleverly engineered to resolve the ongoing issues suffered by many homeowners with traditional roofs. The solution is largely down to the innovative concealed fastening system. Roofing panels interlock, resisting wind lift and fully sealing fixings. As all fastenings are protected from the elements, these roofs are watertight and reliable in a way that wasn’t possible before.
Other shingle roofs are prone to lifting, delaminating, and generally breaking down. This is caused by high winds and strong UV rays. In contrast, Tilcor’s CF profiles are highly durable, delivering world-class performance.

Warm oceans make for more hurricanes and more risk. If you haven’t made the switch to stronger roof material, now is the time to.
Parts of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans hit record highs for warmth in March. These warm temperatures could bring some insight about the ferocity of hurricane season, the eruption of wildfires, and whether the heat and severe thunderstorms will continue.
If the Gulf’s water continues to stay warm, it could create another Harvey like storm as seen in 2017. The ocean also plays a role in how wildfires develop. The warm areas of the ocean by Australia and the Amazon pulled rain away from the land. This causes drier conditions, and worse case, a drought.
IF YOU WANT A ROOF THAT CAN WITHSTAND ALL OF THE ABOVE, YOU NEED TILCOR.
Our roof materials are high wind resistant, hail resistant, fire-safe, and more! You will not find a more durable, versatile, and attractive roofing product on the world market that will surpass Tilcor’s quality and affordability.
Our tiles are engineered to withstand high wind uplift forces. They can withstand up to 120 mph! Our tiles have also received the highest rating for hail impact resistance in the United States. Sometimes Class 4 roofs qualify for insurance discounts (you’re welcome). And most of all, our tiles are rated “Class A” non-combustible. This is the highest rating possible!
Our roof materials are suitable for all seasons and environments. Our products are coated in acrylic and have been tested for the most severe UV climates. With our engineered interlock system, our shingles protect against gaps so leaks don’t exist on a Tilcor roof!

Questions and answers published by Tilcor Roofing Systems.
Tilcor roofs are known as “cool roofs”. This means they have the ability to cut building owners’ energy costs because they reduce the need for air conditioning. Tilcor roofing products are designed to be elevated from the roof deck which creates a natural air flow referred to as “Above Sheathing Ventilation”(ASV). This ventilation prevents heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter. In addition to proper attic insulation, this can help lower electric costs associated with heating/cooling. The combination between our steel panels and ASV have seen customers achieve 30% reductions in the energy bills.
Steel roofing is no more susceptible to lightning than other roofing materials. It has been demonstrated that lightning strikes most frequently the highest points of terrain. Where concerns exist, lightning rods can be installed on roofs that are the highest point of surrounding terrain.
Yes, rainwater collected from Tilcor roofs is safe to consume. After your new roof has been installed you need to wait for two good rainfalls before beginning collection. Tilcor panels have been tested and meet the World Health Organisation standards for water run off, meaning you can drink water from a Tilcor roof, other petroleum based roofing products, can break down and can become toxic after a few years.
Yes. Though some care must be exercised while walking on the roof and you should only place your foot on the flat section on the nose of the tile, roofers walk all over the roof during the installation process.
The history of Tilcor products demonstrates that fading is not a problem. Tilcor uses either naturally colored or ceramic coated stone granules on their tiles. The natural stone cannot fade and the ceramic coated stone is manufactured with the highest quality pigments and fired at temperatures above 700 deg Celsius. Over time, a slight change in color may occur due to settling of airborne contaminants, however periodic rain or washing the roof with a garden hose will keep the roof looking new.
Yes, when installed to the required standards and with the required maintenance Tilcor roofs can carry a warranty of up to 50 years. Consult with your local contractors regarding their installation warranty.
An acrylic primer is applied to the Zincalume coated steel substrate by the steel mill. Graded, non-oiled stone granules are then embedded in a thick UV resistant water base acrylic polymer. A final layer of acrylic over-glaze is applied on top of the stone before the tiles are cured in an oven at a temperature of 120 degrees.
Stone-coated steel roofing occurred during world war II when tar and sand were used to cover galvanized steel bunkers. After the war, the practice was commercialized and the first roofs were produced. Stone-coated steel roofs have been protecting buildings since then, but the product technology today bears little resemblance to early practices due to advances in the chemistry of coatings.
A Tilcor roof can withstand decades of abuse from extreme weather conditions including wind, heat, humidity and rain. Tilcor has many international test reports and actual field results confirming their products are earthquake, fire and freeze/thaw resistant and can withstand hurricane-forced winds of up to 120 mph. With a minimal amount of periodic maintenance a Tilcor roof will provide decades of lasting performance.
Steel roofing is classified as a non-combustible roofing material (Class A). In new construction and in many re-roofing applications the metal roofing system is a Class A non-combustible roof assembly. That means it has the highest possible fire resistance.
No. The modular tile system and the dead space between the steel roofing panel and the underlay minimize exterior noise even in a rainstorm. The stone-coating also reduces the noise of the rain when it hits the tiles.

The ZINCALUME coated steel has been formulated to give a significantly longer service life than a galvanized coating. The ZINCALUME steel coating combines the corrosive protection of aluminium with the sacrificial protection of zinc, giving the advantages of both metals. The resulting alloy coating enhances corrosion resistance, making it ideal for such applications as roofing. This is why the Tilcor roof system is referred to as "The final Roofing System", and is backed up with a 50 year limited warranty.
