Fitting stone-coated shingles around a dormer

Trimming and hand-fitting stone-coated steel shingles at a small dormer, and why each cut piece has to slide under the course above it, not over.

This is a small dormer on a stone-coated steel roof, and it is where the cuts get fiddly. Every piece around it gets measured with a square, marked with a pencil, and trimmed with snips by hand.

The part worth watching is the lap. A cut piece has to go under the course above it, not on top, so water sheds over it instead of under it. You will hear the crew talk that through as they fit it.

This is unscripted footage from a job in progress, wind noise and all.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing? No, just a trend. No, that freakin' caught. Destination. Oh, here's our edge. And here it's nice. That's a new square. I got a little tiny one too. I'm glad they could take any of this watch off. I'd rather have Leo's cold throw over there. I agree. I just need to turn this off. When I slide this, I'm gonna slide this underneath it. So bring it back that way. So that needs to go under here versus on top and just caught. So now we have a little piece under here and it runs under here
